CUR I: Banking

This Monday, March 31st, I visited Independence Elementary in Lewisville, Texas, and taught a banking lesson to a class of about 35 students. We explored what banks are, why people use them, and the differences between savings and checking accounts. To reinforce these concepts, students participated in a banking terms matching game and a hands-on activity where they acted as account holders, dividing $50 of play money into checking and savings "accounts" based on different scenarios. We finished the class by discussing the importance of banks in keeping money safe and how to choose between account types, and rewarding certain students for their engagement.
